Children love to celebrate holidays, and Cinco de Mayo is a great holiday for kids to enjoy with family and friends. Allowing them to join in the festivities will provide a great learning experience for them about Cinco de Mayo, and the culture of Mexico, as well. A few ways on how to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with kids are as follows.
Kid Friendly Parties
There are many parties and barbecues being held during Cinco de Mayo, which many adults attend, but children love to attend these events as well. Try and make plans to join a party where there will be other families with children attending, and make this a kid friendly event. Kids love the music, dancing and food that accompany parties, and they love playing the games that make these parties so entertaining. Even consider hosting your own Cinco de Mayo party, and make it a fun family event for everyone.
Tip
For younger children, bring a extra change of clothing for spills, and possibly a blanket for them to take a nap on if they become tired. Young kids tend to become exhausted easily, but this doesn't mean you have to pack up and go home. If you host your own party, possibly try and leave one of the bedrooms as a rest room for young children.
Fiestas Are Fun For The Entire Family
Kids love the live music, delicious food, and fun atmosphere of a fiesta. Try and find a fiesta that promotes a good environment for the family, and doesn't have a lot of drinking. There may even be a fiesta that offers fun games and rides for both adults and children. Kids love to dance, so try taking them to see the live Mexican music or performances, and let them enjoy dancing.
Tip
If you plan on being out all day, try to pack some extra snacks, water and juice beverages. Kids tend to get hungry a lot and dehydrate quickly, so offer frequent beverages, especially if they have been dancing a lot. If you plan on being out in the sun then pack a good sun screen to prevent sunburns, and get them to wear a hat, possibly even a sombrero.
Stories, Plays, And Music
Cinco de Mayo offers a lot in the way of telling fun stories, reenactment plays, and music from Mexico. Kids really enjoy these sort of activities, and this offers them a great chance to learn the history behind Cinco de Mayo. Many children may not really be aware of why Cinco de Mayo is a holiday, so try and explain this to them in a fun way through stories, plays, and music.
Tip
Try finding songs that are about Cinco de Mayo, and if you can't then consider letting the kids
