At the edge of the dock...
peering out at the beauty the body of water holds....
carefully dipping a toe, to feel its temperature.
Sitting and cautiously extending your foot, ankle, and leg into the water...
as your differences become obsolete...
Getting to know, watch, and feel the lake...
Hearing the breeze through the trees,
the flapping of a birds wing,
as it swoops over head...
Gliding out over the lake,
sharing only its reflection in the flat water below....
You stand, you know the next step....
you want to submerge yourself in the lake....
feel it...
You dive....
feeling the cool rush of water,
chilling at first,
flowing quickly from your outreached fingertips,
elbow, forehead, face, shoulder, back, hips, thigh, knee,
to a familiar leg, ankle, foot and toe....
where they first touched....
Face breaking through the flat surface,
Quietly taking it in....
knowing how well you fit....
the lake supporting you,
feeling it encompass you,
holding you close,
yet giving you the spaceto move freely....
but always with you.
You swim to the dock...
where you first met...and where you will part.
you emerge, feeling the water leave you....
holding you until you pull away from it....
trying desperately to hold on to you...
You look back, knowing it will be there,
the moments you shared.
waititngfor your returnand
when you will be one again.
