Excitement or relaxation? I believe that everyone takes vacation for the purpose of relaxation. It's just that different people relax differently. While you would rather sit in your lounge chair warming up in the sun, your significant other may prefer surfboarding. There is nothing wrong with that. Vacation is about feeling good and coming back home recharged. Believe it or not, strenuous physical activity causes your body to release some chemicals that in the end make you feel good and relaxed.

There are many people that like to do nothing more on their vacation than laying on a beach getting some suntan. That's relaxing, but to others it may be utterly boring. They'd rather go camping, hiking, or 4-wheeling. For those who don't mind spending money, taking a cruise, going scuba diving, or exploring some distant country is a perfect way to relax. And then there are people who can't be satisfied unless they are free climbing, skydiving, or riding strata-coasters. They are the thrill-seekers that love the feel of the adrenaline rush and might even be addicted to it. Adrenaline addiction may not always be a good thing, but if you are responsible and safety is your priority, such exciting vacation will in fact help you to relax.

The only time the issue of either slow-pace or fast-pace vacation may cause some problems is when two completely different people want to take a vacation together. If you like to spend your vacation exploring a new town and the other person wants to go drag racing, you may have to compromise. Explore the town together and then go to the race track together, where your friend can do some racing while you cheer for him from the sides. You can also split and do your favorite activities separately, but that's not why you went on this vacation together. Being able to compromise is the key to a relaxing vacation. There is nothing worse than coming home disappointed or even upset because you gave in to someone else's wishes and were not able to relax the way you like it, or because you had to spend your vacation alone.

Another relaxation buster could be vacationing with children. Children want fun and excitement. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with them and you may need another vacation after such a vacation. To combat this issue you will need to do some planning. Find out ahead of time about childcare options and while your children are being watched, you take time for yourself and enjoy your vacation the way you want to.
