This article looks at some of the most flattering hairstyles for fine hair. It includes hairstyles suited to those with thin, fine hair and hairstyles for those with an abundant amount of fine hair.

Flattering hairstyles for thin, fine hair:

If your hair is fine, but lacking in quantity it has a tendency to look limp and sit flat against your head. The goal here is to increase the visual appearance of overall volume. There are three key hairstyles that will achieve this.

The first is to simply blow dry your hair with the aim of creating big hair. After shampooing and conditioning your hair with volume building products, blow dry each section dry using a large round bristle brush. The larger the brush, the more volume you can attempt to build. Once you have dried off all the hair, flip your head upside down and give it a blast from underneath. When you flip your head back over, you should have much more volume. Only very gently put the hair back into place, because you don’t want to smooth down the volume you just created. If you find your hair dropping during the course of the day, once again flip your head over, and brush or finger comb, before returning upright.

The second is to create texture through curls or waves. The thinner your hair, the bigger the roller should be, because this will create a larger, bouncier curl and hence the appearance of fuller hair. For as much volume roll the roller as close to the scalp as possible and position the roller under the hair rather than on top of it.

The third is to use your layers or ends to create interest. Take a flat iron, or hot air tool and wrap the ends of your hair around them to achieve a flicked out look. This will help make your hair look fuller around the face, which will reduce the appearance of that stringy look.

Flattering hairstyles for abundant fine hair:

If you have an abundant amount of fine hair it tends to look flyaway and out of control in the mid lengths to ends, but often still sits limply against the scalp. The goal here is to add volume close to the roots of the hair, but tame the flyaway nature of the rest of your hair.

To create volume at the roots of the hair try creating a zig zag part. This is a part that features small sections of hair going in opposite directions. You take a tail comb and pick up tiny pieces and place them in opposition. This automatically adds a little height to the top of your hair. Don’t worry if it doesn’t sit perfectly smooth, this
