Many of us have a story we can tell about something a kid said which uncannily came true or was surprisingly perceptive. Why do kids sometimes say these remarkable things? Are they possessed? Are angels speaking through them? Do they have a more simple, clear connection to the cosmos? A connection that has not yet been buried or destroyed by the ravages of adulthood?
The truth is, it would be impossible to say with absolute confidence why kids sometimes come up with the things that they say. However, it is an almost proven (insomuch as science can prove things) fact that young children have more plastic, receptive brains than adults. So we can surmise that young children can make connections either faster or in unexpected ways because of this brain plasticity. Additionally, children are usually very curious by nature. Due to this curiosity, they will think about things and without the impediment of conventional wisdom, will often come up with something new and sometimes surprisingly perceptive and true.
So I hope we can all appreciate these delightful people around us. I hope we can all use their simple wisdom to add to the experience and knowledge we have gained through the years.
