Poetry: Life after death

by Emma Jean

Created on: February 28, 2010

I stood upon the shore, and I
Saw seagulls in their flight.
Lengths of time stretched far and wide,
As darkness faded into misty light.

A lone wave drew a breath,
Exhaling, raced toward the shore.
And as the end of time loomed high,
I searched my life for more.

I saw the passage of the end,
The horizon embraced the sea.
And the edges of the edge of time
Came calling out for me.

But on the stillness floated:
Softly surfacing on waves of light,
Words whispered near and clear,
“To you there is no night.”

“I am your beginning and your end.
“And then—”
The silent voice within me said—
“When at your end … I begin again.”
