Twitter is a great social networking tool to meet people who have the same interests as you.  You can also connect into various business networks that will help expand your business contacts, friends and followers. 

One of the ways to get more followers on Twitter is to tweet some positive thoughts, sayings or interesting tidbits of information.  I will often look through my followers' tweets and retweet what they have posted.  Not only does this show them that I take interest in their tweets, it also shows their followers that I am reading, retweeting and replying to the many tweets I find on Twitter.

Poke fun and join in with conversations even if the person is not one of your followers.  Eventually you will strike up a conversation of sorts and if they find your tweets interesting, they will follow you.  Just make sure you follow back.

Another way is to post your twitter URL on your YouTube videos, your blogs, and your websites.  I always post mine on anything that I make whether it is a blog about artwork, movies, and music and celebrity videos. Add a comment in YouTube or on other people’s videos and blogs.  I find it is a great way for them to communicate with you.  I also go over each person’s tweets that follow me.  I will even click on their followers and start up conversations with them.  This is a great way to get more followers on twitter.

If you have Squidoo pages or websites, you can put the Follow me on Twitter Badge or links on your sites.  I find that brings people to your twitter page.  If they like what they see, they will follow you.

Try not to post too many blogs at once and no advertisements.  I once joined up for one of those “fun” apps and all I ended up doing was flooding people with a bunch of spam.  It was embarrassing but a lesson quickly learned.  The worse thing was that I did not check my tweets for about three days and these people must have sent hundreds of tweets out.  I lost about 400 followers within a three-day period.  I emailed the company and complained that if they did not stop flooding my tweets, that I would report them as spam.  They apologized on my twitter list and said something about a server being out of whack on a weekend.  I never did get back the original 400 followers I had.

It is best to go online everyday at the same time. Tweeting to at least five followers, this helps to build up
