You Were There
You walked into my life one day.
Your smile lit up the room.
Laughter rung out in the air;
There was no thought of gloom.
You listened to the songs I wrote,
And I read my poems to you.
You were my greatest champion -
My life didn't feel so blue.
You saved my life.
You set me free -
From so much pain
And misery...
You listened to my struggles.
You heard my triumphs, too.
Watched me as I soared new heights -
Then saw me come unglued.
Over the years, you saved me;
How many times - God only knows!
Your gentle eyes and honest smile
Made you a kindred soul.
You saved my life.
You set me free -
From so much pain
And misery...
Let's not focus on tomorrow
And whatever it may bring.
Let's place our focus on today
So that our souls can sing.
I will always treasure you;
You'll have my listening ear.
Regardless of the paths we take
Your hug is always here.
