Abortion is probably one of the oldest and most debated issues still relevant in today’s society. It’s something that everyone will absolutely never agree on, which is what has propelled its debate through the centuries. Personally, I can completely understand both sides of the spectrum. Pro-life activists say that abortion is murder, which depending on your definition of life can definitely be true. The problem I have with the pro-life movement is that they are pushing their beliefs onto other people by lobbying to ban abortion and setting up gruesome posters and rally’s on college campuses nationwide. I understand why someone who is pro-life would not want to have an abortion, but what I don’t understand is why some of them feel the need to tell other women what to do with their own lives and their own bodies. In theory, not allowing abortion is in a way the moral choice because obviously you are allowing a life to enter the world. On the other hand, you’re allowing a life to enter the world. That kind of commitment is not something that should be forced upon someone who isn’t ready for it. If it is, the child might be brought into an environment with unfit parents and an unfortunate economic situation.
The argument then is made that people shouldn’t be having sex if they are not ready to raise a child but in our society, that wonderful idea is all but impossible. Biologically, our bodies tell us during puberty that they’re ready to start having sex but society tells us we are too young. So, we wait a few more years until we’re in high school or maybe for the strong willed after graduation. In today’s world, one usually isn’t financially equipped to raise a child until they have completed their education and are stable in their career. If we choose to pursue higher education, this will be sometime hopefully in our late twenties to early thirties. Proposing that people wait to have sex until they are 25 or 30 years old is just preposterous, especially because their bodies would have been telling them to have sex for some 15 years at that point. Centuries ago, humans were having children when their bodies told them they should be, once they went through puberty. Today, we’ve evolved past this notion and have learned that we’re better off by delaying childbirth until later in life. Even with perfect birth control use, conception can still occur. When it does, the woman shouldn’t
