Creating a group on Facebook is an easy process that will allow you to connect with many others having the same interests or opinions. Here are step-by-step directions to create a group on Facebook:
* Log in to your Facebook account, and you will be taken to your home page. In the left margin, there is a link called “Groups.” Click on this link. You will be taken to a page listing all the groups you belong to. In the upper right corner of this page there is a button called “Create a Group.” Click on this button.
* On this page you will begin to create your own group. Here you will fill in specific information about your group: group name, description, group type (such as business, just for fun, or student), and recent news. You can also add contact information such as email, website, and address for your group. After completing this information, push the “Create Group” button.
* This will take you to a page that allows you to further customize your group. Do you want to show group events? Do you want to have a discussion board? Do you want to allow group members to upload videos? Do you want to allow group members to post links? All of these things and more can be altered on this page to fit the needs of your group. Also on this page is the option to make your group open (anyone can see and join), closed (new members must be approved, and not everyone can view all the group content), and secret (only those invited can join, and only members can see group content). After making the appropriate selections, click the “Save” button.
* If you have a closed or secret group, you will now taken to a page where you can invite friends to join. You can type in friends' names, click on their picture, or send them an email to invite them to join your group. You can also add a personal message to your invitation. After doing this, click on the button that says “Send Invitations.”
* To view your group profile, click on the link in the upper right hand corner that says “Back to (the name of your group).” You can now view the profile of your new group. From this page you can manage your group with options like “Message all Members,” “Edit Group Settings,” “Invite People to Join,” and “Create Group Event.” There are also tabs to add Info, Discussions, Photos, and Videos to the group page.
Once you have completed these steps, you have your new group on Facebook, and you are on your way to having a fun and interactive forum for learning and discussion on your favorite topic!
