Regardless of whether or not you support it, if you keep up with the news at all, you have heard of the Tea Party Movement that is sweeping across the United States and the individual “Tea Parties” that it has spawned. But what exactly is this Tea Party Movement? What do they want to accomplish? What is their stand on the important issues facing our nation today?
Depending on who you ask these questions of, you may get some very contradictory answers. Let's take a deeper look at this new political movement that is rapidly gaining popularity across our nation and try to answer some of these questions.
The movement began in 2009, mostly in response to the large government stimulus packages that were being passed to try to save our flagging economy. At its heart, the Tea Party movement is a grass roots political movement that simply wants less government control in our daily lives, lower taxes, and more freedom in America.
In theory, at least this does not sound so bad, in fact, most American’s can probably agree 100% with this movement at least in those values. The Tea Party movement has gained momentum and popularity mostly due to the many angry and unhappy citizens in the United States that do not like the way our government is running things.
They do not like the fact that our government is gaining more and more control into our daily lives and things that used to be personal to individuals. The less that Congress actually accomplishes, and the less that they listen to their constituents and vote based on their values, the more power this grass roots organization is gaining.
There are several different Tea Party Movement groups out there, but for the most part they all share the same values and wishes for the direction our country takes. Let's take a deeper look at this political movement’s views on some of the most important issues facing our nation today.
Due to almost constant news coverage on the issues and the importance that it has for millions of Americans, let's start out with the Tea Party’s views on the issue of healthcare reform.
As a rule, the Tea Party movement wants to maintain the freedom of choice in health insurance for the American people; they want to do this by maintaining the free market system. Their take on the issue is also, unsurprisingly, that the government should not have even more control over health care.
