Poetry: Death of a parent

Mom I'm sorry i didn't get to say goodbye,

In a million years i never thought you'd die.

I always thought nothing could kill you,

Like you were invincible no matter what you'd do.

You told me if you used again it would be the end,

A track mark tells the story of how i lost a friend.

For years and years I resented the things you did,

But what did I know I was just a kid.

We all saw the best in you before you died,

and even though you failed i still know you tried.

Mom that's all that mattered to me,

I know in death your finally free.

Free from stress, your worries, and your addictions,

Free from your past and your bad decisions.

I want you to know that I miss and love you,

I did not say it a lot but i know you knew.

I'm thankful we became close before you passed,

I wish we had longer but it all happened so fast.

Mom just know where ever you are,

We'll be together soon cruising the stars.

Until that day your memories I'll hold close to my heart,

and when that day comes we will get a fresh start.

I love You Mom
