My own answer to this question is: “What Costs?” The necessary societal frictions amongst differing individuals [or groupings] of spiritual faith in our overall society are invariably exceedingly small… no more so, than any other political aspect of our rapidly advancing and highly technological society. People are honestly offended by a tremendous number of things: Free Thought, Free Speech, and every other solitary Freedom, that we thankfully [still] possess!
Nor, did our enlightened ancestors fail to address both issues of “Freedom from” and “Protection of” Religion. I quote: “The Congress of the United States of America may make no law respecting the establishment of Religion; nor to prevent the Free Exercise thereof.” Every solitary problem in our uniquely American History has occurred due to the ongoing failure on our government’s part to actually obey the law – as written! Of course, this is true regarding all of our “Freedoms and Rights” no matter how idealistically, perceptively, and conceptually defined into our own Constitutional Laws.
Nor, can the courts claim ignorance of the foundational document, or its underlying foundational principles! The Constitution was written specifically, and clearly defined, as creating a Judeo-Christian Theocracy with our “Union” [and society at large] governed exclusively and authoritatively by God [himself]. The specific references to Him as “Our Common Creator,” “Our Protector,” and “Final Legal Authority” are absolutely clear; while any specific belief and/or religion is specifically barred from speaking on “His” behalf… and, they did this for numerous reasons.
First, all of our Rights and Freedoms are a product of our common ancestry and creation - through whatever means, or physical process, we may choose to follow in our own personal regard… and, whether we [personally] are right or wrong, on this all-important issue; no manner, or method of personal belief [on our part], will change who [or what] He is - one single iota! That being said: “He is who He is,” or [more importantly] in His words “I Am.”
Second of all, in order to secure these Rights and Freedoms for all of our eventual posterity, some higher power of authority must be appealed to other than “The Laws of [physical] Man!” Were such things under man’s
