Swimming pools are exposed water systems and require regular maintenance, filtration and circulation. Sanitation of the swimming pool should be given much priority. Acid washing the swimming pool at periodic intervals restores the lost gleam and sparkle of the pool. If the pool has become murky and the bottom is not visible, it might be the right time for your swimming pool to get an acid wash.
When does your pool need an acid wash?
Usually if the bottom of the pool is not visible, it can be cleaned using chemicals and filtering the water for longer time. However, if the swimming pool displays visible growth of algae, mineral or dirt stains, then it might need an acid wash to rejuvenate it. Just like your face requires a cleanser and a facial, the swimming pool also needs a cosmetic service in form of an acid wash.
If the pool water looks blackish or green, it means that the pool is infected with algae and bacteria growth deep into the pool. Using any conventional chlorine cleaning might not be as effective as an acid wash. In simple words, acid cleaning or draining is a process that removes the mineral deposits and plaster on the upper layer of the pool and restores the original gleam.
When the swimming pool remains unused during the winter and cold months, the water remains stagnant and tends to become murky. Accumulated dirt and dust lead to the formation of mold spores, algae and bacteria in the pool. It might take some time to notice them and begin the cleaning process. It is not recommended to acid wash a pool very frequently as you might need to re-plaster the pool. Moreover, if the swimming pool has vinyl surface, acid wash is not recommended for it. Rather, a pool shocking and cleaning using algaecides would be a better option. However, if you are considering a re-plaster for the pool, it is ideal to acid wash it before plastering.
How to acid wash the pool?
Acid cleaning a pool is a dangerous process and it would be advisable to keep the kids and pets away when performing the activity. It would be good to have a companion by your side to ensure your safety. If you feel confused, it is always a good idea to contact professional help to acid wash your pool. If you need to do it yourself, remember to mix a gallon of acid to a gallon of water. Never mix water into the acid. The acid should be added to water carefully. The diluted mixture is then applied to the pool surface and needs to be rinsed off when it begins to bubble. It is important to follow the proper instructions when acid cleaning a pool by yourself.
Swimming Pool- Acid wash and safety tips
Ensure to take all kinds of safety precautions like wearing gloves, protective eye goggles and a respirator. Wearing an apron can also provide additional safety. Always keep a source of running water ready to wash yourself if there is a direct contact with the acid. It would be a great idea to compare prices of a few pool cleaning companies and contact them. Depending on your budget, you could hire professionals to acid wash your pool. These tips would help to acid wash your pool when needed and restore its lost beauty, making it ready to splash during summers.
