In Super Bowl XLIV, two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL squared off against each other - it was no surprise to see Peyton Manning and Drew Brees in the top five when it comes to the better fantasy football QBs in the league.
Drew Brees - New Orleans Saints.
As well as winning the Super Bowl, Brees can be considered the No.1 QB in fantasy football in 2010. Amassing 4,388 yards passing with 34 touchdowns and just 11 interceptions, these are usual numbers for the Saints’ passer since his arrival in New Orleans four years ago (from the Chargers).
The offense looks to be intact for next season and the philosophy will not change after winning a championship; Brees will be a first round pick in most fantasy drafts and will be the reason many fantasy teams won a title in 2009.
Peyton Manning - Indianapolis Colts.
A Super Bowl winner and loser, Manning has all the tools to consistently be a top-rated QB. Throwing for 4,500 yards with 33 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, there isn’t another passer that can be relied upon as much as Manning. Helped in no small part to the Colts’ lack of a powerful running game, he carries the team on his shoulders.
Now a 12-year veteran, his play has no visible signs of diminishing any time soon - coupled with some great receivers - it is a no-brainer to ignore Manning as a top-10 fantasy draft-pick.
Aaron Rodgers - Green Bay Packers.
Always destined to unfortunately be in the long shadow of former starter Brett Favre, Rodgers had to wait three seasons before his chance came. 2009 was a sensational season - 4,434 yards passing with 30 touchdowns and only seven interceptions.
It appears that the Packers have fully assimilated Rodgers into their offense - the wait seems worth it. Before 2009, he may not have been an automatic pickup at fantasy QB but 2010 will be very different prospect. Rodgers will possibly be gone by the time the 3rd round of fantasy drafts roll round.
Matt Schaub - Houston Texans.
Completing his first full season (in six years) in the NFL, Schaub is making believers in Houston and the rest of the NFL. 4,770 yards led the NFL in passing yards, with 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, Schaub has elevated his game and can be seen as a legitimate fantasy starter (if he can stay healthy).
His stats are helped greatly but having one of the best wide receiver’s to play the game in Andre Johnson - with a definitive No.2 receiver opposite him
