Your wedding day is one of the most exciting and special days of your life, and you want it to be the best it can be. If you have a quirky sense of fun, or if you just don’t want to be the same as everyone else, you will be looking for a unique wedding cake style.
Wedding cakes don’t have to all be the same. White tiers and fondant icing might be OK for most people, but there are those individuals who are always searching for some thing out of the ordinary. If you are one of those people, then read on:
Shape
A wedding cake can be made in any shape you like. Who says it has to be round or square? If you want an unusual wedding cake, think outside the box – or in this case, the cake tin!
How about a heart-shaped wedding cake? This could be layered up the same as a traditional cake, or it could be make to look like a satin cushion or a heart-shaped box of chocolates.
Color
A wedding cake can be given a unique twist by choosing a wacky color. Go for bright, bold colors and really wow your guests. Very often a bold choice can be spectacular.
Not a Cake At All
Consider using a different type of baked confection as your wedding cake. How about a croquembouche, the French dessert made of tiny choux pastry buns filled with flavored whipped cream and piled into a tower and decorated with spun sugar?
Another idea is to have a fruit tart, with the fruits laid out to make a landscape, which would double as dessert. Use confectioners custard under the fruit for extra luxury.
You could choose a biscuit-based cakes like traditional German gingerbread. Gingerbread cookies can be make and decorated as for Christmas, but with the bride and groom’s names and wedding wishes piped onto them.
Individual Cakes
It is the fashion at the moment to offer individual cupcakes at a wedding instead of having one large traditional wedding cake. These can be baked in any flavor and decorated in any color. If you want them to double as favors at the wedding, you can use individual cellophane boxes to display them in, which will help your guests transport them home all in one piece.
Another way of presenting individual cakes is to use squares of cake, like children’s building blocks. These can be colored to match your wedding theme colors and piped with letters. The letters can then be used to spell out the bride and groom’s names.
Matching Your Theme
Depending on the theme of your wedding, you could have a novelty cake make in a shape that matches. For example a beach hut for a beach wedding, a pumpkin for an autumn wedding, a gingerbread house for a winter wedding.
Additions and Embellishments
You could make your wedding cake stand out from the rest be adding extra touches to make it unique. For example, you could add indoor sparklers, glitter powder, or indoor firework on the top.
Lights can be used to illuminate an ordinary cake and make it look really special. A plainly-iced cake can be make to look like as if the aurora borealis is playing across it with the addition of a clever light show.
Dry ice can be piped across the stand of a cake to make it look like it is floating on a cloud. This can be colored to match your wedding theme.
All these are ways of making your cake stand extra special, so that you know that no-one else has ever had a wedding like yours. Good luck choosing!
