I am a forty-five year old male and I love video games. I am also a family man with children who also love video games. My daughter is three and my son is five. We all love video games, but we love different kind of video games. I believe most adult males either love shooter games or sports games. Some like both, but most like one or the other. Little girls like princess sort of games. The kind of pretty little girl games that most older males do not understand why they were even made. While little boys may love sports games and shooter games (which are too mature for little boys), they also have their own favorites. My five year old boy for instance has a new favorite video game. This game is called Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. While I like playing the game it has become too complicated for me. While my five year old son whizzes through the game, I stand in awe at his power. I cannot even compete with him when it comes to his kind of games.
The video game industry has realized two things. Many men love sports and many men love first person shooting games. These games were designed for the man who wishes he was giving the talent to play a sport, but instead is more of a couch potato. I don't mean to step on any feet, but it's true. While most men believe they can play a particular sport, few exceed at that sport. Madden has made it so the rest of us feel like we can become involved in professional football. Just because you are good at a game about football, doesn't mean you are good at the real life game of football.
Now there are some men, who just love to play first person shooting games. I happen to be one of those men. I am not a couch potato because I usually walk on the treadmill when I play. There is something special about playing Modern Warfare 2 on a Playstation 3. Sometimes you really feel like you are in the real life war. While thanking God you really aren't. This is the reason men like to play games that are too mature for little children. We enjoy going on line, competing with other men, and becoming triumphant. Men like to win. When we win, we feel good about ourselves. The video game industry ( a group of very fat rich people) have realized this fact. An adult male likes the action of a war game. An adult man loves to win win win. Many of us will play for as long as it takes for us to win. It is a beautiful thing to win. Don't hate us, this is just how we are. And if we have to pay fifty or sixty bucks to win, it is worth every penny.
