Poetry: Just me

by Lorie Spencer

Created on: February 23, 2010

I've Never Been A Cinderella

The floors may go unswept and mopped
The dishes may occassionaly pile
But I do enjoy the birds and bee's
And the sun brings me a smile.

I may not be so glamorous
In the rags that I have worn,
Nor be the raving beauty
That so many women scorn.

I see the good, and bad in folks
I often speak my mind.
So, delicate I may not be...
Yet, still tender and defined.

The dust collects on the window sill
But the sun shines through the glass,
The voices inside seem restricted and forced,
I decide to let that pass.

The dog winks a sweet good morning,
With fresh water i arrive.
Those calm and trusting notions
Are whats keeping me alive.

No glass slipper for my feet
And mother not being a fairy
I must trust my own instinct...
I choose to be joyous and merry.

Many will miss the beauty
And cheat themselves of joy.
So shallow are the majority
Who pretend to be righteous and coy.

In everything there are some flaws,
Be it clothing, cash or care.
But the imperfections that make you perfect
Only Cinderella's wear.
