A dog is man's best friend, right? If so, then it is plain to see that the most important thing to remember as a pet owner is to keep him/her happy and healthy. The best thing that a pet owner can do to keep their pet happy is to provide their dog with a balanced and well monitored nutritious diet. Therefor, homemade dog food has many perks as opposed to store bought brands.
1. One of the best things about making your own dog food is that you know exactly what is being put into your dog's food. With the ill economy today, people will do anything to make money. This even includes putting products into dog food that is not even healthy for your pet. Even though the bag may say chicken, if you read the ingredients, it will say "by products of". At least if you are making the food, you know that your dog will not be consuming foreign unsanitary products. Also, some packaged dog food may contain food that is meant solely for the purpose of leaving the animal with a full feeling, as opposed to leaving your dog with a nutritious diet.
2. Another good thing about making homemade dog food is that you are able to save money. Some dog foods cost as much as $22.00 a bag. If the suggested serving amounts are used, there will be a need for approximately 3 bags a month depending on the size of the bag. If time is not an issue, money saved may be a positive to buying products to prepare your dog's gourmet meal at home.
3. The most important issue that would be the deciding factor for me as a result of the question is self satisfactory. I would be glad knowing that my dog is receiving the correct amount of nutrition while I am the one preparing and doing for him/her. I would be happy to know that no harmful ingredients are going into my dog's diet.
In conclusion, it is without a doubt a good decision to make homemade dog food for the simple fact that you are monitoring your dog's diet and you are giving your dog a balanced and nutritious meal each and every time he or she eats. If you do decide to stick with a certain type of store bought dog food, it is a good idea to read up on the reviews and nutritional value in that dog food, this may save you money in vet bills in the long run.
