Poetry: The day love died

by Shakia Shine

Created on: February 22, 2010

The mood was somber the day was dry

I sat up quietly listening to my mama cry

Oh what a terrible time had this come

I thought it would last forever I thought this was the one

Mama had cried over how sick it was from the beginning

Now she was hurting because now it was ending

Now it was gone and there was nothing she could say

I pray to God to help mama find her way

She puts on her dress and her good church shoes

It's so unfair she's done her time she's paid her dues

I walk past the room and remember when it was there

I wondered back then if it ever really cared

Now I know what to expect of you

I don't want to be next that's not what I want to go through

She brushes my hair and fixes my dress

She's so tired and worn out from all the stress

Today it's dead and today it's gone

There's nothing left no reason to hold on

We watch it leave we've done our part

The day my daddy left was the day my mama buried her heart
