Receiving a pink slip from an employer you’ve been faithful to can be a devastating experience. However, if you just got laid off from your workplace, it might benefit you to see this experience as a blessing in disguise.
Change happens for a reason. None of us knows all of the answers to the world’s questions. It seems unfair that after months or years of dedicated service, you are suddenly cast out in the cold from a job that offered you more than a paycheck. Perhaps your workplace was where you found your identity. Your old job might have even been where you met some of the best friends of your life. It’s time to move on, and you are not sure how to do that. Rest assured however, that all is not lost. You DO have something valuable to contribute, not only to the global economy, but to other people’s lives.
The first thing you should do is thank God for your health. Next, take a deep breath, and start brainstorming. When it comes to finding a new job, networking is VERY important. If you aren’t interested in joining a networking group, consider doing something that interests you. Many people have hobbies but they don’t think of using their hobbies to help them find employment. For example, if one of your hobbies is taking Aerobics classes, there might be someone else in your class that could have a job lead for you. Chances are that if you have a strong common interest with someone, you’ll get along with that person and work well them. Make an effort to start friendly conversations with others, because you never know what information they may reveal to you.
This is a different generation, and you should feel grateful for that. There are more opportunities for men, women, and minorities than there were even 50 years ago. And, thanks to computer technology, there are more opportunities to work from home or be self-employed than there ever were before. You can even upgrade your education online with online community colleges and universities! These positives count in your favor and make an easier path for you along the road. Consider joining a network marketing business where you can build your own team. That way, your income is under YOUR control and no one else. Search the Internet for Work from Home jobs and read testimonials from others who are working in those jobs before
