Poetry: A picture of the past

“I Have the Last Laugh"

There you stand – in all your own smugness and glory,
towering over me in a hot August afternoon eulogy.
There you stand - blond waves blowing side – to side,
blue eyes mischievously glancing at me, familiar way.

Emotions overcome me, but not the ones you think,
of disappointment in your character and promises.
Betrayal, and far – fetched tales to dissolve our love,
are forever etched in my memory and gullible soul.

How many lives did you really try to maim and ruin,
with your smooth Casanova attitude and gestures?
Heaven truly knows of the girls who made it through,
and the ones, scarred hearts forever and an eternity.

I’m a lucky one, you see, for I could read you the best,
and fashioned my life around righteous and the just.
While you live a great lie, a “so – called ‘mature’ life,”
I bid you so-long, adios, auf weidersehn, good – bye!
