Natural ways to get rid of a sinus headache

A sinus headache can control your life - or, at the very least, your day. Some of us don't want to take over the counter medicine (and definitely don't want to have to see our doctor) every time that our body gets attacked by a sinus headache, so what can you do, naturally, to help to alleviate some of your discomfort? Here are some suggestions - some for avoiding the headache in the first place, and some for helping to heal one once you already have it. Try these out, and see if your life doesn't start to get a little better.

1. Avoid getting the headache in the first place by dressing appropriately for the weather - this is especially important when it is windy outside. Cover your nose with a scarf, and your head with a warm hat when the weather is cool or when it is very windy. Follow the advice your parents always gave you when you were a child and dress warm!

2. To help to minimize the discomfort, try these two "massage" tips. What more natural help is there, than massaging yourself?

Place your hands on the back of your head with the thumbs pointing down. Find the spot on each side of your neck bone where there is a bit of a hollow. Gently rub your thumbs in circles, and repeat for a couple of minutes. Do this as often as is needed, to help alleviate some of the stuffy and clogged feeling in your head.

Take your palm and place it, very gently, against your nose. Rub your palm in a circular direction for about a minute. Repeat as needed. This can help to relieve some of the pressure felt, especially in your nose.

  3. Try Vicks Vapor Rub to get rid of some of that stuffiness - this one may not be completely natural, but it is still more natural than taking a pill. Rub it under your nose, on your chest, or on the back of your neck.

  4. Try drinking something warm to help to drain your sinuses - how about a cup of tea or hot chocolate?

  5. Rest, rest, and rest some more. Resting has been known to help to relieve some of the pain and annoyance of a sinus headache.

Don't let the sinus headache control your life, try these remedies to heal yourself and get on with your day.
