Movie reviews: Zombieland

Zombieland has to be one of the best zombie based movies I have ever seen and that is comparing it to Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead and whatever other movie which includes Zombies or a representation of Zombies. This is mainly because this movie (unlike Shaun of the Dead) is funny and has entertainment value and actually kept me gripped for the full 1 hour and 20 minutes it ran for, which is another factor I love, a movie that’s short and to the point, which describes this movie perfectly.

Summary

Possibly one of the best things about this movie is that it doesn’t have a complicated story to it, it’s all explained by a short and entertaining narration at the beginning of the film, telling you why the vast majority of people are zombies, which turns out to be because of an infected burger or something which spread as an infection, simple. The main character, whose real name we don’t find out but he is named Columbus because he is heading to Columbus, he narrates at the beginning that he is an anti social person and describes himself to have a bit of OCD, creating rules which are the key to the whole film. He meets with Tallahassee another unique character who’s named after the location he is heading too and they make their way to meet two more people and without going into a bunch of needless detail they kick zombie butt and swear a lot, in a great comical and humorous way.

Review

I can’t really say anything bad about this film, it a comedy, it made me laugh, smile and enjoy the film, it doesn’t have a over complicated storyline which it depends on to provide the humour and its short and sweet, just the way I like my comedy films, especially ones that depend on swearing and violence to keep the audience happy, which this film does kind off. The acting was fantastic, all the actors suited the characters well and they casting didn’t depend on bringing in big stars like Seth Rogen to make it funny.

All in all, I can’t really review this film without spoiling it a little and possibly ruining it slightly, so go in expecting good quality mindless entertainment, that doesn’t require you to remember names, previous development or any of that stuff. I typically don’t do such short and un-detailed reviews, but this is mainly because I liked 99% of the film on a rare occasion.
