A plus-sized girl's guide to flattering fashion looks

An important rule in fashion is to highlight your assets. While most choose to hide their trouble spots to avoid critical eyes, a far more effective way of achieving this is by drawing attention to your best qualities. This way, you'll accomplish two things : first, you'll learn to appreciate yourself more for your strengths and personality and second, focusing on your most beautiful parts helps direct people's eyes toward your assets instead of the part you're trying to cover up.

Body-skimming clothes

Figure-skimming clothes are great for accentuating curves and is quite forgiving on bumps and bulges. Avoid tight-fitting outfits which not only cuts off your blood circulation but also makes you appear wider due to the horizontal lines or “whiskers” that often result when wearing tight clothes. This also applies to underwear so, if you can, invest on quality shapewear that fits right and doesn't cut into your skin. Comfort is more important than fashion but you can have both if you choose your outfits well.

Light Fabrics

Flimsy fabrics that lightly graze your silhouette look great on curvaceous bodies. Wearing light fabrics allow you to layer coats and blazers which also helps to make you appear slender by adding vertical lines along your torso. Light fabrics does not necessarily mean sheer but there are a lot of mesh and burnout tops that look great in layers or on their own. Sweaters made of lightweight material look great as well especially if weave or pattern is vertical.

Large Details

Scale is a very important aspect to consider when it comes to clothes, and I don't mean that thing you weigh yourself on. Your outfit, accessories and fabric patterns should be in close proportion to your body size. Just like how skinny women look too twiggy when wearing over-sized prints, full-figured girls will benefit more from large-scale patterns and accessories. The key to avoid looking bulky is to choose large yet flat, non-chunky details. The closer they fall along your body, the better.

Jewel Tones

Jewel-toned dresses look classic and beautiful no matter who's wearing them. They are wonderful substitutes for the lighter colors we wear such as emerald for green, topaz for yellow, aquamarine for blue, amethyst for purple and ruby for red. Jewel tones needs to come hand-in-hand with the right fabric such as silk or satin in order to achieve that luminous effect. It's best to keep the style simple to avoid a dramatic look but not too simple that it looks like
