Hiding store brand and generic product labels in your home isn't difficult, but it can be time consuming. It's much faster and easier to leave these items in their original packaging but it's certainly not as attractive and sometimes can cheapen the appearance of your home.
Even though not all packaged store brand products are unappealing, and especially now as more and more companies have noticed a developing trend in presentation, there are still a few products you might wish to disguise.
Listed below are a few ideas to help hide those products with unattractive labels and to organize the remaining, essential items tastefully.
Because the kitchen and bathroom are two areas of your home most likely to accumulate store brand items quickly, that is where we will focus most of our attention.
• In the kitchen
° Perishables and non-perishables
Because perishables, such as meats and mayonnaise will be kept in your refrigerator (hidden already,) we will concentrate mainly on those items that are primarily left out for convenience sake, for example: hand soap, laundry detergent, etc.
- All non perishable items, such as can goods, rice, crackers and the like. should be easily accessible and preferably stored together in a pantry. If you don't have a pantry or another storage shelf, a bottom shelf cabinet will do.
- Another well-known eye sore is dish washing detergent. If you still hand-wash your dishes, and most of us do on occasion, then you are familiar with the sixteen ounce bottle of lemony fresh suds sitting against the back-splash and all of the soap residue it leaves behind.
Typically, we would rather store dish detergent under the sink to keep it and the counter free of soap scum, however, for busy house-holds, one way around this is to purchase a water bottle and a decorative, plastic lined kitchen basket.
Both items are inexpensive and come in various shapes and sizes. Place your new basket inconspicuously near the sink. Your unmarked detergent and other cleaning utensils are unnoticed, yet still within reach.
• The bathroom
Your bathroom is not only where you and your family go to unwind and take a leisurely bath or shower, it is also a place of necessity for guests and other non household members and should always be sanitary, clean in appearance and free from clutter. However, by hiding all of your store brand items, you will achieve a more luxurious feel.
