Democracy is the best method of government for every country because it provides individuals the ability to move their society in the direction which they feel is the best, and to oppose the direction that others may feel is best. An individual in a democracy can essentially choose their own future. Although not everyone will get what they want, the ability to be a part of the decision making process at least allows anyone with an idea to have their idea heard.
There are two general types of democracy in the world, representative democracy and participant democracy. Representative democracy allows individuals to vote for an individual that represents their views. This is the most common since most people either do not have the knowledge, or the time, to make decisions about their community, city, or country. The problem with this method is that the elected official does not have the same opinions or agenda as the people he or she represents. This form does allow people to contact their representative and voice their opinion on any subject.
Participant democracy is where all people have an equal say and there is no representative. This will only work in small communities since it is hard to appease everyone when you have to appease a large group over a large area, all with different views and goals.
Most democracies, especially the US use a mix of the two. In a large country, people need the ability to have someone that speaks for them and takes care of issues that may not directly affect them. People also need to be able to speak up and express their opinions on things that will affect them directly.
