How to choose habits to help you stay young and healthy

You don’t need to pack your bags and move to Montepulciano, Italy to stay youthful. While searching for the fountain of youth, you may find options for staying young close to home. Youthfulness starts from within. People who exude youthfulness combine healthy thinking and lifestyle choices. Youthful adults have many habits that keep them healthy. These are the habits they share when asked what they do to stay young.

*Dietary habits

Eating a healthy balanced diet is the cornerstone to staying youthful. Colorful vegetables add a variety of vitamins and nutrients to make a balanced diet. These healthful diets will assist with heart disease prevention, decreasing blood pressure and eliminating diabetes. Green leafy vegetables are known for there cancer fighting properties. Thinking about eating vegetables and fruit first will become a routine that builds a healthy layer to the range of food choices. When hunger strikes the body needs protein, vegetables and fruit to balance out the carbohydrates. Whole grain carbohydrates are the best choices while avoiding high fructose corn syrup. Switching from white rice and breads to brown sources of fiber will provide healthful benefits. Salmon, flax seed oil and nuts provide a boost of omega 3 which facilitates brain health.

*Maintain weight

Keeping weight within a healthy range will provide long standing benefits. While weight is maintained, it will assist with keeping the abdomen within healthy parameters. This reduces the risk for chronic medical conditions and aids in youthfulness. As weight is controlled it will boost energy, happiness and ability to continue lifestyle activities. Continuing activities will make aging gracefully an easier task.

*Habit of hydration

Drinking eight 8 ounce glasses of water to wash away toxins and aid in elimination are habits of youthful adults. Caffeine can become a lifestyle habit that overtakes water consumption. Drinking vitamin waters or floating lemons and other fruit can help increase water intake. Many adults keep a large container nearby to make sure water is consumed each day.

*Lifestyle fitness

An exercise routine that can be practiced 3-5 times weekly will be the most effective way to improve cardiac health and maintain youthfulness. Exercise improves circulation, reduces diabetes, and facilitates relaxation. Fitness is as specific as the person who is doing the exercise.
