THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PASTOR AND A PREACHER

10. A Pastor looks at the people. A preacher looks at the steeple.

9. A Pastor's work is always fun. A preacher's work is never done.

8. A Pastor's sermon is full of 'know more'. A preacher's sermon is full of 'no more'.

7. A Pastor comforts the afflicted. A preacher afflicts the comfortable

6. A Pastor is willing to give up his time. A preacher won't even give up a dime.

5. A Pastor doesn’t mind singing in the choir. A preacher doesn’t mind bringing in the fire.

4. A Pastor says, "Fill my mouth with worthwhile stuff." A preacher says, "Shut me up when I've said enough."

3. A Pastor wants to learn more. A preacher wants to earn more.

2. A Pastor talks about his life. A preacher talks about his wife.

1. A Pastor cares for the flock. A preacher stares at the clock.

Anybody can be a preacher, but it takes a special person of God to be a Pastor. A preacher simply preaches the Word. A Pastor not only preaches, but also teaches at the same time.

Pastor is a job title. Preacher is just part of the job description. A Pastor is more than just a Sunday morning preacher. He is the under-shepherd of the local church. Christ is the Shepherd.

The Pastor feeds and waters his flock. He puts the food out there. We must be willing to take it.

The Pastor is a teacher. He teaches not only through his sermons, but also by example.

The Pastor visits the elderly, shut-in, sick, and bereaved. Caring for the "sheep" which God has made him steward of.

The Pastor also performs weddings and officiates at funerals.

The Pastor is a counselor, listening to the needs of the congregation. He is very much into praying for his sheep. Often times not getting very much rest due to late night calls from the sheep.

The Pastor is the administrator of the church also. He not only directs the staff, but also the general leadership of the church.

The Pastor is the overall leader of the local church. He knows his sheep and which direction they need to go in. He motivates the sheep.

The Pastor is a mediator, solving divisive problems that happen among members of the local church.

So we see that the Pastor has a long list of job functions. There is more to being a Pastor than many people realize.

A preacher, on the other hand, is just a great speaker delivering the message of God to anybody who will listen. The preacher is usually self-appointed. The Pastor is called and anointed of God. The preacher can often do the same things as a Pastor, yet the preacher does not have his own flock to take care of.

P.S. God has called both men and women to preach the Word of God.
