Starting and keeping a personal journal can be a great experience. Keeping a journal will allow you to have a special place of your very own to keep track of your feelings, special events, places you have been, and advice for future generations. Those of course are only a few areas you could write about.
One thing you need to remember when you keep a journal is that it isn’t about the product, only the process. In other words, your main objective is to write, don’t worry about spelling or grammar. You are the only one who will see it, so don’t be judgmental about how you write. Think of your journal as your own private world. Your journal can help you change, grow, and learn about yourself. The journal is yours to do with as you would like. Feel free to make mistakes, cross things out, rip out a page; absolutely anything you want to do.
Another thing to think about is the type of journal you want to write in and what you want to write in it with. You can use a spiral notebook, a diary that locks, or anything that is comfortable to you. Pen, pencil, crayon, marker, or even colored pencils can be chosen to write in your journal with. As long as what you are writing in and writing with are comfortable for you, it will help entice you to write also.
If you are not sure how to begin your journal, there are several websites on the internet with journal ideas and tips. For those that don’t have a computer, think of a memory that means something to you or what you did today. Think of some inspirational quotes or even write about how you are feeling. Go as far as pretending your journal is a friend you can tell anything to and go for it.
Stay focused on why you want to start a journal and write in it everyday if possible. The best way to do this is to have a designated area where you can sit comfortable, that is quiet without distractions, and even set a special time to write. This will assist you in making time for yourself. Your journal should help you find clarity, understand yourself better, and grow personally.
Start writing today; although it might be hard at first, soon it will become natural to you. You have to start somewhere, so write whatever comes to mind no matter what it is. The journal is a tool to help you explore your internal world. Don’t hold back on anything, just write freely. Enjoy!
