Who wants to be a millionaire?
I know I do, but after writing on the web for a decade I realize that I am not going to become Rich through revenue earned on the internet. However, with a little hard work and dedication it is possible to make a small residual income.
Like anything in this world, it is not easy, in fact you have to work hard if you want to earn more than pennies; luckily there are some decent sites out there that give the writer the chance to earn.
Helium
Helium is one of the multitude of sites available that allows normal people to write about things they know about and or love and earn some money while doing this. Helium allows you to earn in different ways.
Revenue Share is the first; this simply splits revenues between all writers – while the formula for splitting is a mystery, essential the higher the quality article and the more traffic it receives, the higher the share of income.
Competitions is the next; there are constantly competitions running in which you submit a collection of articles and if you are rated highly you will be eligible to win a prize.
Finally there is the Marketplace; occasionally companies will ask Helium writers to submit articles for publication – the best article or articles will earn a commission for their work.
Hubpages
Hubpages is another content oriented site that allows you to use a variety of tools to build a fairly decent web page. It is one of the easier sites to do this, but does not have some of the functionality available in sites like Squidoo.
To earn money on Hubpages you have to have affiliate accounts with Amazon, eBay, Google adsense and Kontera. By inserting products you will gain a share of any sales made through your ‘hub’ – additionally, any clicks through to Google Ads will be shared 60-40 with you.
Squidoo
Squidoo is similar to Hubpages but out of all the content oriented site allows you to create the most multi-media site. The tools are extensive and you can create some pretty good looking websites on here.
Like Hubpages you can earn a share of revenue from ebay, amazon, cafepress etc – however you do not have to have your own affiliate account. Additionally, you earn a share of revenue (Google Adsense) income every month – generally better quality sites that are listed in the top 1000 sites on Squidoo will earn more
eHow
eHow is another content oriented site, this time focusing entirely on pages designed to explain ‘how to’ do something. Revenue is based on the popularity of the page and the amount of traffic you get. I found it difficult to earn much on this site, but with a little luck you can hit the right niche and make a lot of money – one of my eHows has earned over $70 in 6 months.
Conclusion
Just writing on these sites is not enough; you have to promote your creations on blogs or other websites, and really work hard on Search Engine Optimization to earn more than a few dollars a month.
Great writing isn’t a guarantee that you’ll do well – it does help – but it is only half the story.
There are many other resources that will assist you in your quest to earn residual income on the web, and most of these can be linked in to your writing and compliment it – use of Blogs with Google Ads will help; promoting your pages on Social Sites helps!
