Writing a website review can depend on one’s audience, if your audience are tech savvy they’ll want more detailed, in depth information about the website. On the other hand if you are targeting the general public, then your review does not have to be as in depth.
Navigation
This aspect of a website must always be discussed in a website review, look at the website from different views in order to see how easily functional the website is. If the links are clear and easy to click on then it provides for optimal browsing, if it is extremely difficult to find the links and know which are links then the website is not great for browsing.
If you want to provide detailed information on the navigation, this information should be about what format the links are presented in, such as flash and if they are a design element of the website.
Layout
This aspect ties in with the navigation, if the layout is set out clear and easy to read, the navigation will most likely be the same. A layout of a site depends on what the site aims to give to the audience, a portfolio, an online shop or an information content website etc. The layout should match what the website gives to the audience in terms of functionality and navigation.
To provide more information to the tech savvy audience, state how the layout ties in with what the website has to offer and also what format and resolution it is, such as if it is in css/html, java or flash.
Appearance
The appearance of a website should always be targeted at the audience, if the appearance is attractive and appeals to the target audience then that is good, if it doesn’t reflect the audience at all then it is not reflective of the company or audience.
For more detailed information state if the colours used on the website reflect the theme of it and how it helps or hinders to create brand identity for the company. Furthermore state how the appearance is suitable or unsuitable for the website based on the content and the target audience.
Information Provided
The content of a website should always be targeted at the audience, websites for children will not have vocabulary which they have never come across, it will be based on their intellect at the certain age in order for their targeted audience to get the best possible experience. This is vice versa for adults, childish words and simple short sentences will not be used to describe terms and conditions for adults.
To provide more detailed information, state whether the links work for all the information and how the information is presented to the audience such as in video, text or pictures.
Writing a website review depends on who your targeted audience is, a good website review should consist of the basics of the website however with key elements from the website also put forward.
