What happens after we die?

by Margaret Radisich Sleasman

Created on: February 14, 2010

This question is not much different than the one asked previously, “What Happens to the Real You When Your Body Dies”;   maybe the question is worded a bit differently, but it is the same question that haunts us.  We are curious and fearful; we want to know what is going to happen when we take our last breath.  We go to funerals for the young and the old and become very aware of our own mortality.  We are left to wonder not only what will happen, but how it will happen.  Accident, illness, whatever way, it is only a matter of time before we are claimed by the grim reaper.

There are almost as many different beliefs as there are people, but who is correct?  Someone must be; someone must have had a near death experience and brought back some information so that we can look death in the eye and not be fearful.  I choose to believe God even though many believe He does not exist, I know in my heart that He does; and that everything expounded in His Word is true.

Most of the people in the world either don't believe that God exists or that He will accept you with all of your faults because you are doing the best you can.  The fact is even if you believe there is a God, but you don't want to have anything to do with Him in this life, why should He have anything to do with you in the next life?    This is no different than you being born into a very rich family and choosing to ignore your parents and seek to be adopted by someone else.  They are hurt and will more than likely cut you out of the Will; since you do not want them, you are not entitled to any inheritance you may have had.  If you do not choose to follow God, if you do not want to be a member of His family and follow His rules, you are not going to be entitled to any inheritance from Him, but will be an outcast and spend eternity with your father, the devil.

Of course, you may think this is entirely speculation on my part; but what if it isn't?  What if the Bible is true, what if God is real, what if Jesus Christ is the ONLY Son of God who came to earth to die for your sins?  What if He rose from the dead and walked the earth for 40 more days then visually ascended into Heaven and conquered death and sin for us.  What if He is coming back again to claim His own?  What if all you have to do is repent and accept His gift to have eternal life – and what if you don't?

You may think that when you die
