Karaoke Party

With the popularity of American Idol many dream of winning, but may be too old or not as talented as one likes to think. A Karaoke party gives people the chance to dream of the chance to stand up on a concert stage and mesmerize a crowd if only for a group of friends. For others it might be just fun to satirically mimic the antics of others.

Equipment

A Karaoke machine is the number one piece of equipment, but you must have a wide selection of music for a variety of tasks. A collection of recording medium appropriate for your Karaoke machine provides the means to give a recording as a party favor.

Spirit of the evening

It is important that people feel comfortable enough to perform or to make a fool out of themselves. This requires that you be careful to avoid inviting individuals who are not supportive of others. It might be wise to avoid making it be a competition or to give any awards.  If someone turns out to be remarkable, you can encourage praise and encourage them to enter local competitions or even America Has Talent when it comes to town. A guest may have unrealistic impressions of his or her musical ability but do not deserve criticism. Have a sign in table that would have kind hearted suggestions on performances or audience guidelines simply placed in a frame near the music selections.

It is important to have an icebreaker for people who are not familiar with each to build friendships. A's people come you can have appetizers and beverages. This provides for some friendship time. The beverages are servedin clear plastic glasses which can be written on with markers. Have each quest write the name of a musician they admire. It does not have to be the person whey will mimic or sing there signature song.  

Startup

The group may be a little reluctant to get started.  Have a small basket with easy to sing songs and ask everyone to draw out of a bag a certain color marble means you attempt to sing the chosen song. When they see individuals attempt songs they had not sung at home or practice and the group encouraged.. Next, the group performs the chosen songs. When a couple individuals attempt simple songs they had not sung at home or practiced that the group encouraged and enjoyed, the mood lightened.

Comedians

Maybe you have guests who dreamed of being a stand up comedian. As an additional event you can ask if anyone would like to do a stand up routine. This could be a break in the moods especially if the mood needs to change.

Karaoke parties are a good alternative to the traditional cocktail or dinner party.  The talent shows would not be so popular if people did not dream of fame.
