How to decide which piercing is best for you

Getting a piercing can be a very exciting and rewarding experience. However, in order to ensure you fall in love with your piercing and enjoy it for years to come, you should select a piercing that is right for you. Piercings can be divided into three main categories: facial, ear and body. When deciding which piercing you should get, you should start by asking yourself which of these three locations would be best for you.

There are many types of facial piercings. A common type is the lip piercing, which is done on the bottom lip on either the left or right side. Some people choose to get “snakebites”, where both sides of the lip are pierced. You might also choose to have your nostril or eyebrow pierced, other common facial piercings. Some people choose to get a Monroe, which is found above the lip, or a labret, which is found below the lips but above the chin.

The problem most people have with facial or oral piercings is that they are visible. This can cause problems at work or at school, where certain dress policies might prohibit facial piercings. Before getting a piercing you should inform yourself of the rules at your school or workplace. Sometimes piercings are accepted if a bandage is put over them, or if a clear piece of jewelry is used so that the piercing is not as noticeable. If you are set on a facial piercing, you might want to consider a tongue piercing, which is not visible and easily hidden. Another idea is a septum piercing, which is done in the cartilaginous wall between the nostrils. In this case the jewelry can simply be flipped up into the nostrils when at work or school.

If a facial piercing isn’t for you, you might want to consider an ear piercing. The main advantage of ear jewelry is that most workplaces and schools allow them, and if not the hair can be worn down to cover them. The most common type of ear piercing is to have one’s lobes done, and some people choose to get a second or third hole done on the lobe next to the first hole. You might also be interested in piercing your tragus, the cartilage found immediately in front of the ear canal. Alternatively you could get an antitragus piercing, which is done in an area opposite the tragus and the ear canal.
