Blight Of Deceit

Innocent and shy
Trusting, unassuming
She opened to the sky
The pristine rose, first blooming.

Charming in his ways he was
The cunning fly-by-night.
Lavished her with praise galore
And left her deadly blight.

What a sad, sad thing to see
Where once was such elation
The wilting rose with head bowed low
In utter desolation.

My friend, don't be surprised when reading
Books down through the ages
To find her dry and lifeless form
Somewhere between the pages.
