Who is Swami Vivekananda and what is his "work"? Any decent study will give you all the details of his life (1863-1902) and studies (Hindu Vedanta); he is a disciple of one Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, a mystic 19th century Indian who worshiped Kali, the Mother Goddess of creation. The Vedanta philosophy emphasizes self-realization that you are God, the divine is within you, the material world is illusion (Maya) and the only true reality is Braman (cosmic consciousness). It is all about YOU and discovering the "supreme self" of ultimate reality. Where have I heard this before? Ah, yes...the Emerald Tablet of Hermes and the 7 steps of Transformation or "how to become ONE with god" system. The Self, the Higher Self, the Overself "child" created by union of forces, then the unborn self purified by psychic forces becomes the Astral Body and stellar state of consciousness - voila!...you are GOD. I've studied the occult/pagan systems for about 6 years now and can recognize the basic elements when I see them. This goes way back to Babylon and Sumerian religions and Eastern mysticism. "God" is in all nature and the cosmos as a "force" of energies and not a personal God outside of the Cosmos (as in the Judeo/Christian religions).
I always look at who influences these teachers and where are they coming from in their ideas. Ramakrishna has an interesting life and background. For one he was into estatic (orgasmic) experiences with the mother goddess Kali and his family started to worry about him so they decided to get him married (get him rooted in material reality for awhile so he could live); he married a 5 year old. Alrighty then! I bet that was fun for her. Swami Vivekananda was his deciple and got heavily into Advaita Vedanta Hindu philosophy which emphasized non-dualism. You see, the whole point of existence is to quit being who you are in this material world (which is from evil emmanations out of the original God of positive/negative forces) and become one with the Universe or the Absolute; you become all points in the universe at once - now that is Cosmic Consciousness brother! My son, who once used to be a pagan, tells me a decent hit of DMT will do the same thing for you without all the meditation work. You can sum up the philosophy in that great joke: Ever hear a Hindu order a hot dog? Make me one with everything!
