Tips for dyeing your hair a shocking color

Unusual Hair Coloring

Wondering how to get a new shocking hair color? Or maybe you are not
content with the more common hair colors. The first thought is going to be
deciding how much of your hair you want to die - one side, all of it, or a
number of streaks. Now how long is your hair? That is what is going to be
the big factor in how long it is going to take. To get started, first
rinse all of the hair products and then clean and dry your hair so that it
is ready for treatment. Decide if you or a friend are comfortable handling
a bleaching job (bleaching must be done unless you have white blond hair
with no color). If so then pick up a bleaching kit at your local
convenience store. You can get these from Special Effects or Manic Panic,
which are good for most hair types. However if 30volume is best used on
lighter hair, and 40volume is best for darker hair types. If you have a
beauty supply store near you such as Sally's Beauty you can pick these up
pre-packaged as well. If you are more experienced go ahead and mix it
yourself. In that case, you will buy a developer, bleach powder, a mixing
bowl and a bleaching brush that will only be used for mixing and applying
bleach. Do not attempt to mix these in a bottle. Developer comes in four
standard volumes 10, 20, 30, and 40. Number 10 is weakest, usually used
when dying hair black. Number 20 volume is usually found in hair mix kits
at your local drug store. Number 30 and 40 are used when you have dark hair
that needs to be very light faster than the others. There is also a 50
volume which you need to be a licensed beautician to get hold of. If you
do use 50 volume and you are not such a beautician, you should have a very
experienced friend doing this for you. The 50 volume will feel a lot
different from 40 volume of the store kits. Bleaching powder which comes
in a few different varities like the developer. A recommended brand is
Clairol Kaliedecolours which comes in either a packet or a tube. The tubes
are larger than the packets and come in a few different "colors". Beige is
formulated for lighter hair, Purple for "mediums", like auburns and
medium-browns and dark blondes; blue is formulated for dark brown, very
dark auburn and black hair. Next you are going to need to follow the
directions on the tube/packet on how to mix the bleach powder and developer
together. The bowl and brush that you are going to be using for this
should only be used for bleaching and applying bleach to hair for obvious
reasons. If you have short hair, mix less together than if you have long
hair. Once everything is mixed together apply to your hair starting at the
roots and working your way down as if painting it onto the layers of your
hair with the mixing brush. The bleach packet may say to wrap your hair in
plastic to heat set and blow dry, and not to leave on for more than 20
minutes. You can leave it on longer about 45 minutes which will take
longer but result in lighter hair, depending on your original hair
color. If you already have a lighter hair color, you can leave it on for
less amount of time than if you have darker colored hair. In the event
that you leave it on too long and you begin to have burning or
blistering appear on your head during the bleaching process, rinse at once
with cool water and seek medical attention as needed. Next you will need
to shampoo and rinse your hair at least three times to make sure that all
of the bleach is out. If your hair is a medium-yellowish color than you
are ok (it won't be white), but if your hair is medium to medium-dark
yellow then you are going to want to bleach your hair once more. You
should wait about a week before bleaching your hair again if you choose to
lighten it further. Pick up some a tube of the color of your choice by
Manic Panic, Special Effects, or Raw Color. Squeeze onto an old toothbrush
and paint onto the areas of your hair that you want colored. Leave in for
about 15-20 minutes then wash and shampoo out and rinse again. Unlike the
bleach, it is good to leave the color agent in your hair longer if you have
the time. An hour or more is good. After you do the rinse of the excess
coloring, you should not wash your hair for at least 3-4 days to give the
color a chance to finish setting. The next time that you do wash your
hair, wash with cool water (hot water makes the color fade faster along
with washing your hair more than 2-3 times a week).
