Band reviews: Dope Stars, Inc.

Dope Stars Inc

Hailing from Italy as the new electro dandies, the 7th generation of Rock
and Roll, that is Dope Stars Inc. Consisting of Victor Love (Vocal
distortion, Guitars attack, Synthesizers, Drum machine & Cubase Sx.), Grace
Khold (Synthesizers, Industrial meininki), Darin Yevonde (bass guitar), and
Alex Vega (lead guitars). In Spring of 2003 the band started out

originally consisting of Victor Love, Grace Khold, Darin Yevonde, and Brian
Wolfram. In May of 2003 the band began in a dirty cellar under Rome with
their first release '10.000 Watts Of Artificial Pleasures'. Industrial
overloads, R'n'R razor-shaped guitars, Goth decadence, fast and furious
punk attitude, pop melodies and techno hammer-beats - all qualities
involved with this new take-off. They have been called the new Marilyn
Manson. The media feedback from that EP blew everyone away while the
response from the press and magazines provided them with top scores around
the world. During the Winter of 2004, Alex Vega replaced Brian Wolfram on
lead guitars. Alex Vega, formerly known as the guitar player of the Roman
wave-rock sensation 'Klimt 1918'. After two years of hard work, fake
offers and long negotiations, the group signed up with German Trisol Music
Group GmbH who had already signed other such bands as London After
Midnight, L'Ame Immortelle, Christian Death, Cinema Strange, Sigue Sigue
Sputnik, Samsas Traum, Kirlian Camera and Sopor Aeternus. The band also
signed 4R Management to work on the band's career development. The band
then started working on their long-awaited full-length debut album
'Neuromance' with producer Thomas Rainer of L'ME IMMORTELLE and legendary
producer John Fryer (Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, H.I.M., White
Zombie). Neuromance was released August 28, 2005. The band has since been
featured in zines and magazines such as Gothic Beauty, Metal Hammer, Music
Werks, Space Junkies, Lollipop, and Sick Among The Pure. Some of the bands
influences are Industrial Metal Rock'N'Roll, EBM, Techno, Cyber-Punk,
Sleazy, Synth Pop, Futurepop, Darkwave, Gothic Rock, and Death Rock; and
bands like Zeromancer, Deathstars, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Rammstein, VNV
Nation, Korn, Metallica, HIM, Aphex Twin, Covenant. Some previous
events/clubs that they have played are Alkatraz Rock Club, Venice Rock
Festival, Zoe Club, Obscurenight, Sudterranea Club, Subbacultcha, Qube
Disco, Dark Day, Rainbow Club. A few upcoming shows of theirs are
Brckenforum, Wave Gothic Treffen, Amphi Festival, Orkus Open Air, Mera
Luna. Victor and Grace usually write the music together, the Darin and
Alex work on improving the song arrangements. Most of their outfits are
designed by the band member themselves. As a live band on tour they often
turn out the kind of energy you would see in a Guns N Roses gig. They hope
to eventually tour with Marilyn Manson, Motely Crue, and The Muder
Dolls. They have also created a small entertainment company for indie
musicians. They are also involved in another band called My Sixth
Shadow. During the week Victor runs a computer shop while the other
members are students. For fun the band likes to go to clubs and
party. The name that could represent all the aspect of our music and
attitude. "Dope" represents the doped, synthesized and Prozac-addicted acid
that is in their blood. "Stars" represents their Rock'n'roll
attitude. "Inc." represents the Industrialized and CyberPunk side of the band.
