Product reviews: Toblerone milk chocolate

Created on: February 11, 2010

My husband bought me a huge Toblerone milk chocolate with honey and almond nugat. It had an extra cover on it as it was a Valentine day special edition and there was an arrow on it showing the direction to my heart. Well we both know that it’s not Valentine day yet but it was fun and the chocolate was delicious.

I think once you saw the unique prism shape of Toblerone chocolate you can’t forget it. Toblerone is a Swiss quality chocolate. I think it is really delicious. The reason why I rate it only 4 out of 5 is because its shape is not very convenient.  I don’t know others like to eat these triangular chunks or not I find it difficult eating it without getting my hands chocolaty. So I think it is really fun to make a chocolate representing Matterhorn mountain in the Swiss Alps but I don’t find it convenient when I try to eat it.

This chocolate is made in Switzerland by Kraft Foods UK who acquired the company producing this brand. Toblerone originally was created in 1908 by Theodor Tobler and Emil Baumann. Its name comes from the combination of Tobler and torrone (Italian word for a special nougat). There is one more interesting thing about this brand: if you take a look at the mountain on the wrapper you can see a hidden bear on the picture of the mountain. This bear symbolises the town of its origin. For more information visit www.toblerone.co.uk.

The ingredients are as follows: Sugar, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Honey (3.0%), Milk Fat, Almonds (1.6%), Emulsifier (Soya Lecithin), Egg White, Flavouring (Vanillin), Milk Chocolate contains: Cocoa Solids 28% minimum. Milk Solids 14% minimum. Contains: milk, almonds, soya and egg.

The nutritional values per 100 g are as follows:

of which Sugars: 59.0g

Fat: 29.0g

of which Saturates: 17.5g

Fibre: 2.2g

Sodium: 0.06g

My husband bought the 400 g bar for 2.21 pounds in Sainsbury’s. Its price was reduced by 33% now. It is available in smaller bars as well. You can find them in most of the supermarkets.

To sum up it is a delicious chocolate with very unique and not too convenient shape. It is true that once you saw it you won’t forget it. Anyway for me still Cadbury is the number one chocolate brand. Swiss chocolate are really good I have to admit so from time to time we will buy Toblerone in the future too. The milk chocolate is smooth and melts quickly even in your hand while you try to brake a chunk. There are pieces of almond in it. If you haven’t tried it yet give it a go!
