Defending freedom of speech in the UK

by Marcus Bentley Wise

Created on: February 11, 2010

I would say that it is the right of every person in this country to have the right of free speech. The problem that we have is that we now have political correct speech as well. So it is hard for any one to say what they want with out getting pulled down for speaking out of line.

We have in our public arena the wonderful people who will open there mouths and say what they should not. Form the very grand such as the Duke of Edinburgh to politician like Boris Johnson and a whole myriad of celebrities. They appear in head lines as another gaff or slip of the tong is uttered and a whole section of society is offended. We talk abut them and say have you heard what so and so has said this time. And we should defend there right to do so.

If a person is looking to get elected and starts to talk about immigration and race. If they tell people that they will do some thing about it. Stop it from happening and help those that want to be repatriated be repatriated. Then that is there right to do so. If people vote for them and then they get elected then they have a right to stand and say those thing no matter what you might think as they have gone threw a process that is fair and true. And despite what you might think then they have the right to do so.

But if a person is taking a platform and saying to others that you should go out and commit a crime towards another person then they do not have the right to do so.

The problem is knowing when one thing turns to another and stopping it.

At the moment in Briton the B.N.P. or British National Party are getting a lot of support. They have won seats on local election and councils even European Member of Parliament. This has seen them go from a rather obscure party to a mainstream party and have given them time on television and in the paper that normally they would not have had. Irrespective of what you might or might not think they have never told any one to go out and break the law. They have not told people to defend them selves or stick out and take revenge for the bombings on the “7/7”in London. What the B.N.P have done is asked people to vote for them and the people have. All be it in a small way of the local and European election but the people have voted and now they will have there sites set on the general election.

You might not like what they have to say but they have a right to say it. And that is the problem with the freedom of speech. What another person say or thinks is entirely up to them and no matter
