The competition between Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 is very stiff. However, I will have to side with the Xbox. There are many outstanding features for both systems and I believe that some aspects of the PS3 are better than the Xbox 360.
The PS3 is in my opinion, the second best console of the seventh generation era. The system is the machine of choice for Sony supporters. Its better features include: resolution up to 1080p HD, its graphic processing handled by the NVIDIA RSX Reality Synthesizer, the 40, 60 and even 80 GB hard drives, the ability to play Blu-ray discs and most importantly, free online play. On the downside, the PS3 lacks many popular titles that are exclusive to the Xbox 360. The Halo series, Gears of War, and other game franchises are missing from the PS3 line up. The current slogan for the PS3 “It only does everything” is precisely part of its inferiority to the Xbox. All the bells and whistles of the PS3 make it more of a multi media center than an actual hardcore gaming system.
Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is the favorite console of millions worldwide. When it was first released in 2005, it came in three packages, Arcade, Pro, and Elite. It really offered people to start out how they wanted. If you knew for a fact that you would be a die hard 360 fan, you bought the Elite and started playing great online titles. In November 2009, the “super” Elite bundles were released with a whopping 250 GB hard drive, just in time for the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The timing was impeccable and ultimately increased the popularity of the Xbox.
The Xbox experience is one that many people enjoy. The dashboard, avatar system, and Xbox Live Arcade are perfect for the already superb gaming provided by the system. Xbox Live Arcade has had its share of great titles, such as Castle Crashers, N+, and Marble Blast Ultra, but perhaps one of the most intriguing parts of the Xbox experience is Project Natal. It was introduced in June 2009 and promised controller-free gaming. One could compare it to the Nintendo Wii, but without the Wii-mote. Natal also promises voice recognition and a release date in August 2010.
Although the PS3 is a worthy adversary, the Xbox 360 is superior and can only improve and innovate. If you’re looking for a hardcore system, find your way to the Xbox 360.
