Baseball players who have used steroids should definitely not be considered for the Hall of Fame. Why? Because the Hall of Fame is not only a place to honor players with good batting averages, but players with good moral character. And, the Hall of Fame is definitely not a place to honor players who have done the opposite of that.
The main reason that baseball players who have used steroids should not be considered for the Hall of Fame, even if they only used it once for a short period of time, is that they broke the rules. Why should they be honored? They gave themselves an unfair advantage over other players who decided to follow the rules. The other side of this debate may say that some of the players' baseball playing performance was not boosted by the steroids, but it isn't whether the steroids helped them or not, it's the very fact that the player took them in the first place, breaking the rules and giving themselves a better chance of doing well. It is unethical, and should not be tolerated.
Also, our children look up to these players. While we parents are teaching them that they can't cheat on a test in school to win, do we honestly want them looking up to men who cheated to do better? Children will learn from this that cheating to win is okay. This is destructive to American society.
Here is an example. To be on the honor role in a certain high school, a student must achieve all A's. A boy named Mark and a boy named Albert both have achieved all A's and therefore are going to be on the honor role. Before they are officially on the honor role, it turns out that Mark cheated on one of his tests. He had the answers written on his hand. Albert didn't cheat on any of his tests, yet still managed to get A's on them. Since Albert got all A's honestly, he should be put on the honor role, but since Mark cheated on a test, should he? No.
Cheating is not accepted anywhere in life, so why should baseball player be allowed to cheat...and then be honored for it. A cheater should not be put in a museum for the best. The Hall of Fame should be reserved for the players who not only achieved excellent performance, but did it honestly.
