Comparing the Harry Potter books to the movies: Which is better?

I love the Harry Potter series. Although I'm not an obsessed fan, I still enjoy reading the series very much. I have read every single book in the series dozens of times and have watched every single movie at least twice. They are both wonderful, but I cannot help but say that the book was much better than the movie, as I often feel about movies and the book that they're based on.

There is something that I just love about books. Flipping through the pages, anticipating whats going to happen next, and trying to figure out the good guys and the bad guys. The way that the words float out of the page, and you can just imagine all the scenes in the book. The Harry Potter series is wonderful, and the details in the book allow the reader to imagine everything that is going on. The one great thing about books is that you can create the image in your head, and it can look like however the reader wants it to. I always find myself just placing the book down for a second and creating the scenes in my head, and I greatly enjoy imagining what the characters would look like and then maybe comparing it to others' ideas. The Harry Potter books just magically create that image in your head, and the characters pop right off the page. The plot is so amazing, and my brother and I have discussed many times the way J. K. Rowling must've planned out the books, and we both find it greatly fascinating. All in all, I love the series and everything about them.

Then, there were the movies. The movies were also pretty good, but I didn't quite enjoy them as much as the book. There is just that one small detail that the movie misses sometimes, that one small point that could change the entire outcome. Also, the actors are wonderful but they just aren't the same as how you think them up in your head. In the movies, there was too much stuff that didn't happen in the movie that occurred in the book, and this will be changing the 7th movie. I have several die-hard Harry Potter fans, and I have heard that in the 7th movie (which will be split into two parts) they are adding in an extra scene to explain the deathly hallows. The planning of the plot in the books is quite ingenious, and the movie has skipped some of the important details, which kind of ruin it for me. I wait so long for the movie to come out, and then one of my favorite scenes in the entire book doesn't even occur. Although this isn't very often, I am still slightly disappointed each time. The acting is great, and the characters are nicely portrayed, except they sometimes don't act like how I imagined it, but I guess not everyones imagination is the same. One of my favorite parts of the movie was Hogwarts, and the way it was shown. Its absolutely beautiful and while reading the book, I wasn't quite able to imagine the castle exactly right. Although my idea of Hogwarts isn't the same as the movie, it is quite similar. I enjoyed the movies, and am counting the days until the next one comes out. (19 November 2010 for those who don't know)

To me, the book was better than the movie. In almost all cases, I enjoy the book more than the movie. The part about being able to imagine it yourself and know every little detail appeals to me more than just seeing the action happen up on screen, and not knowing what someone is thinking, or specifically doing, whereas in a book, everything is described just enough so that you can imagine it yourself. I can't wait until the movie comes out, because even though they might not be as great as the books, they are still great movies that are very enjoyable, and I still love watching them.
