Poetry: Shame

by Gilbert Barrett

Created on: February 11, 2010

You stand there looking  in disbelief , you not spitting on me is such relief.

Was i once just a high paid attorney , or an archaeologist on his next journey?

Did i perhaps teach your children in school or spread the word or the golden rule?

Was i the one who advised you of that big trade , any weathered suit will soon fade?

Perhaps i was the salesman who crushed sticker price , look beneath a nest of lice.

Did i have the home with the three car garage , where all the happiness was a mirage?

Was i someones loving brother , someones loving husband or even a missed father?

Do you have any information on this which you see before you?

There seemed to be nothing anyone could say or  could do.

A teacher , a preacher , a congressman with a new direction to go, lying now face down in the snow.

A toe tag named Jon , A toe tag named Doe!
