Teens are often looking to earn some extra money during the winter breaks. Perhaps they are not allowed to hold part-time jobs during the school year or babysitting once a week has not earned enough to pay for gas and car insurance, let alone holiday gifts for friends and family. There are many options available for teens for holiday jobs that are seasonal, that offer benefits and great experience. Here are some of the top seasonal jobs for teens. Many times these jobs don't require a lot of training or experience.
Retail establishments are always looking for extra help during the holidays. They are specifically looking for individuals who are not looking for permanent jobs and are flexible in their schedules. Be aware that the busiest times are weekends and they often have extended hours. You should always be honest about your availability as many people apply and they are looking for consistent and reliable people. There are additional benefits to working seasonal retail besides the pay check, such as employee discounts, which can become handy around the holidays.
Many families are also looking for babysitters, mothers helpers or temporary help with children during the holidays due to school being out and after school programs being closed during their child's break. This could also lead to weekend babysitting jobs throughout the year and summer. Many parents are looking for reliable teens to babysit a few mornings a week so that they can get their holiday shopping done without children present.
Drug stores and grocery stores often will hire seasonal baggers, stockers or cashiers to help with the busiest times of year. There is also a higher call off rate during holidays and it is busy, so businesses will try to be ready and prepared with many employees. Stocking may require early or late hours re-stocking shelves, but is great for teens since they will still have their days to play, shop and still hang out with friends.
Some retail stores hire wrappers to gift wrap. This may be outside or inside their store, but usually within a mall environment. It maintains the same hours as the retail store and usually is minimum wage and tips.
Fast Food establishments are notorious for high employee turnover and often are looking for counter, cooks and cashiers. This may be able to lead to after school or weekend jobs throughout the year if you are dependable and hard working. Fast food jobs may not sound ideal, but tend to be a good option for first jobs.
Regardless of what type of job interests you for the holidays, the fact remains that employers are looking for hardworking, reliable, honest workers. They look for attendance, professionalism in dress and speech and desire to learn. Any job experience is great to have in life, on resumes and teaching time management. Also, beggars can't be choosers at the holidays. There are jobs to be had if you are willing to look, apply and train.
