The PGA Tour has some big golf championships in March. While these exclude any of the four majors, there is still much to anticipate on the PGA Tour calender this March.
March 4 – 7: The Honda Classic
March begins with the Honda Classic, which is currently defended by PGA Open champion Y.E. Yang. This championship is played on the 7,158 yard PGA National Champion Course, regarded as one of the hardest courses in Florida. The 488 yard 6th hole is particularly tricky, with water on the left from tee to green and plenty of bunkers on the right side.
March 11 – 14: Puerto Rico Open
While perhaps overshadowed by the WGC - CA Championship, much of the tour will still play at the Puerto Rico Open which was won by Michael Bradley in 2009. The championship is staged at the Trump Invitational golf course, a 7,500 yard par 72. One of the most notable holes include the particularly long 630 yard finishing hole which borders Ensenada Bay.
March 11 –14: World Golf Championship - CA Championship
The biggest championship for March is the WGC - CA Championship which is currently defended by Mickelson. The CA Championship will be played at the Doral golf course, a great course with Bermuda-grass fairways and greens, which has been lengthened to 7,266 yards. Its 467 yard finishing hole is regarded as one of the hardest on the PGA Tour, with left-to-right cross wind and a narrow green bordered by water.
March 18 –21: Transitions Championship
The Transitions Championship, defended by Retief Goodsen, will be played at Innisbrook golf course in Palm Harbor. This 7,340 yard par 72 is not a course to be taken lightly, and is considered one of the hardest on the PGA Tour. The 16th hole is most intimidating, with water stretching along the right side.
March 25 – 28: Arnold Palmer Invitational
The Arnold Palmer Invitational was won by Tiger Woods in 2009, and is the final stop for the PGA Tour in March. The par 70 Bay Hill club course will host the event, which is a more straightforward course with a number of lakes that add some scenery, and watery pitfalls!
So those are the PGA Tour events scheduled for March. Watch out for the CA Championship, which will feature the highest ranked players of the PGA Tour.
