Confronting the divisions of Christianity

by John S Foster

Created on: February 09, 2010

Proverbs 13:10 By pride and insolence comes only contention, but with the well-advised is skillful and godly Wisdom.

The Contentious Church.

We are indeed a flawed people. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes, and we all get things wrong. Even in the body of Christ there are flaws.

Yet generally speaking, we as Christians will argue and fight one another over Gods’ words. We will learn of God, be convicted in our hearts, walk in His ways, do as we believe is right.

And when someone else does not believe exactly as we believe then we reject them and separate ourselves from them. Believing we are right and they are wrong, and will even judge them in their beliefs. Believing we hold the absolute truth of God. And in this we have forgotten grace, mercy, and most of all Love. And we do it in the name of Jesus.

The interesting part of this is, generally we all believe in the Son, Jesus Christ and have confessed Him according to Romans 10:9 and 10, and were baptized thus clearing the way to live a Holy life.

Hebrews 6: 1 Therefore let us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity. Let us not again be laying the foundation of repentance and abandonment of dead works (dead formalism) and of the faith [by which you turned] to God, 2 With teachings about purifying, the laying on of hands, the resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment and punishment. [These are all matters of which you should have been fully aware long, long ago.]  3 If indeed God permits, we will [now] proceed [to advanced teaching].

Actually the entire chapter is relevant.

In the big scheme of things, the Saved of God will make it to Heaven. That is not an issue. The issue is living life before Heaven. Treating others as we want to be treated. Loving the brethren and walking the walk that was appointed for us to walk.

We certainly must watch out for those who are not even about God. Those false teachers, false Prophets. Those who tickle the ear, those who deceive, the Anti-Christ’s.

But we are talking about the people of God.

Like all other faiths, such as Jewish, Buddhists, Muslims and the like, in Christianity, there are different sects or denominations of belief. I don’t believe God intended things to be that way. But we have it any way. Baptists, Episcopalian, Apostolic and all the others that make up the protestant movement.
