Is it possible, in today's morally decaying society, to be a virtuous woman? Just to say the word virtuous sounds archaic, historical and may be questionable as something to strive for.
In times past, women used to have role models to flesh out how to be virtuous. Today many women are left to figure it out on their own because their own mothers may have lacked the training themselves. Not every woman is brought up in a christian environment or nurtured with respect and taught what virtues are.
Many role models today are the exact opposite of virtuous. No thought is given to being pure, innocent, modest, decent or having a realization that there is a higher standard to live by. We have terrible examples on T.V., in music, magazines, books, and movies where immorality is glorified.
A virtuous woman would save her virginity for the man of her dreams or if her past was full of mistakes and regrets, she could ask God to forgive her, forgive herself and move forward in a new direction motivated by a desire to be a better person.
Shouldn't we all seek to lead a virtuous life? A life that is morally good, righteous, up right, honorable and high principled? Does this sound out of reach? Too high of a standard? Does it really matter?
Yes! It does matter. It matters to those around us within our sphere of influence. Becoming virtuous holds what is good in check and glues together right actions to fit and form a world view that strives for something greater than ourselves. It is not only doable, but it is the right thing to do.
Women need to practice, practice, practice being kind, courteous, quiet, thoughtful, truthful and wise. We all have the opportunity in whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. Proverbs 3:3 says, "Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace, write them deep within your heart."
You will not become virtuous overnight. It is a quality to strive for day after day. Women have the opportunity to be solid and honorable with their lives. We can become the example to our daughters and friends and who knows, maybe we can make a difference in someones life, a difference in this morally decaying world.
