Unsafe automobiles pose a significant threat to the safety of all motorists. Accidents due to vehicle problems can be avoided by learning to identify the causes of these accidents. The following factors comprise the most critical hazards found in unsafe autos:
1. Worn, mismatched, and under-inflated tires
The only thing keeping you safely on the road is your tires. For this reason, you should always make sure your tires are in good condition before driving anywhere. Your tires should not have cuts, cracks or bubbles. They should be properly inflated and have sufficient tread left. Under-inflated and/or worn tires do not provide safe handling. Furthermore, the tires on your vehicle should all be of the same kind. Mixing and matching tires, especially on the front wheels of your car is a surefire way to get into an accident.
2. Inadequate or faulty brakes
The braking system of any vehicle needs regular maintenance to insure maximum braking performance at all times. If you are unable to stop or slow down properly, you can end up not only hurting yourself but others as well. The most common brake problems are worn brake pads and rotors, leaks in brake lines, and old or incorrect brake fluid in the braking system. Also, if you install larger wheel and tires on your vehicle, you should upgrade the brakes to ensure adequate stopping power.
3. Broken or faulty brake lights and tail lights
This one is a no-brainer. If other drivers don't know when you are coming to a stop or can't see your car ahead of them, there is a much higher chance of being rear-ended. This kind of accident is easily avoided by making sure your brake lights and tail lights are functioning properly.
4. Broken or faulty signal lights
One of the most common causes of traffic accidents is failing to communicate with other drivers. Signal lights are your most effective tool for communicating your intentions to other drivers. If you do not signal, they will not know where you are going and this can easily cause an accident that is your fault. Make sure that all of your signal lights, including flashers, are working and always remember to signal. This is not only a matter of safety but courtesy as well.
5. Broken or faulty headlights
Okay folks, this one is another no-brainer. If your headlights don't work or if they are not turned on, you won't be able to see where you are going and others won't be able to see you approaching. Are your headlights stuck on high beam? This kind of glare can blind other drivers
